Marvin and Lois Thornton Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is available to students that meet the following criteria: Recipients may be freshman or returning students, Recipients shall be in good academic standing as defined by ECSU, The recipients shall demonstrate financial need. The term financial need shall be defined by the Financial Aid Department of ECSU as needed. Recipients shall demonstrate good moral character and involvement in extracurricular activities, work outside of school and /or community service by submission of at least two letters of recommendation to the Office. Students who are recipients one year are eligible for consideration in any other year provided they continue to meet the selection criteria outlined in this Agreement. First preference shall be for members of Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church (836 US Hwy 158W, Elizabeth City, NC 27909). If no members of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church apply or are otherwise qualified for this scholarship then; second preference shall be for residents of Pasquotank County, NC. If no resident from Pasquotank County, NC applies or is otherwise qualified for this scholarship then;
third preference shall be for members of Pilgrim’s Way Baptist Bible Church (6501 Parsons Avenue, Baltimore, Md. 21215). If no person from the above named areas apply or are under consideration in any year then awards shall be given to ECSU students who otherwise qualify under this agreement.
